On the Convergence of the Link-state Advertisement Protocol in Survivable Wdm Mesh Networks

چکیده
Survivability in the dynamic IP over WDM network may be guaranteed by the Shared Path Protection (SPP) scheme implemented at the optical layer. The advantages of this scheme are fast recovery obtained at the lowest possible layer and efficient bandwidth utilization obtained by sharing spare resources. The paper investigates the performance of a dynamic distributed bucket-based SPP scheme in conjunction with a modified version of the link-state advertisement OSPF protocol, whose goal is to control the amount of signaling overhead. The objective of the study is to assess the blocking probability of the proposed scheme due to lack of resources, and identify the exact causes of such blocking, i.e., link-state convergence, working lightpath blocking, and protection lightpath blocking. Simulation results show that inaccurate database information, i.e., slow convergence of the link-state advertisement protocol, may significantly contribute to the connection blocking probability unless adequate frequency of the OSPF updates is chosen.

Recent development in optical networking employing wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) fulfills the high bandwidth demand applications. Failure of such networks, leads to enormous data and revenue loss. Design a low cost survivable WDM network is always an interesting and difficult process. Protecting light-tree based multicast connections are more demanding than unicast connections in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based mesh networks. In this work, we proposed two mathematical models and a heuristic based approach to protect multicast connections in WDM mesh networks. The mathematical models presented in this paper are based on multiple unicast connections. Link-protecti...

The emergence of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology has significantly increased the transmission capacity of a link in today's optical networks. In WDM networks, the bandwidth request of a traffic stream is usually much lower than the capacity of a wavelength. Traffic grooming can aggregate low-rate connections onto high-capacity optical fibers to make an efficient use of the ban...

Demands for networks of higher and higher capacities are increasing dramatically with the growth of the Internet and the World Wide Web. All-optical wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks is the most promising candidate to fulfill the bandwidth requirement of the Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (B-ISDN). In WDM networks, the huge bandwidth available on an optical fiber is...

This paper investigates the problem of dynamic survivable lightpath provisioning against single-link failure in optical mesh networks employingwavelength-divisionmultiplexing (WDM).We focus on the special problem of provisioning lightpath requests according to their differentiated protection-switching time, since lightpath may have different protection-switching time requirements. We assume tha...
